Colour and appearance

Compared with titanium, which has a natural grey tone, cobalt appears noticeably whiter and more reflective.

Brushed finishes change the appearance of the metal. Instead of reflecting light sharply, the surface diffuses light and produces a more subdued tone that appears slightly darker than a polished cobalt surface. The brushed finishes on these rings are hand applied in our own workshop, so each ring develops a subtle grain created during the finishing process. Engraving

Cobalt can be engraved in two distinct ways. The first leaves the natural colour of the metal visible inside the engraving. The second produces a darker engraving that appears black against the bright white surface of the ring. Creating this darker effect requires deeper engraving passes so the colour builds gradually inside the engraving.

In practice most couples choose engraving for dates, initials or short messages inside the ring. Because engraving is carried out in-house, it can be tailored to suit the width of the band, and wider rings allow a broader range of font styles. Width and sizing

Cobalt wedding rings are available in 3mm to 8mm widths, covering both women’s and men’s styles to create a matching pair. In general, 3mm and 4mm rings are chosen as women’s sizes, 5mm suits both men and women, and 6mm to 8mm are typically selected for men’s wedding bands.

Our cobalt rings are available in UK finger sizes J to Z+10 depending on the design. When comparing widths it is worth remembering that wider rings can feel slightly tighter on the finger than narrower ones in the same size. More information is available in our Ring Width Guide.

Profiles

Court rings have a rounded outer surface and a curved interior, giving a traditional shape that sits comfortably on the finger. Comfort fit designs take that curved interior slightly further, which can make a wider ring feel easier to wear.

Flat cobalt rings present a broad surface that emphasises the brightness of the white metal, with the edges sitting more defined against the finger than a rounded court profile.

Chamfered and faceted designs introduce angled edges that catch light differently across the surface of the ring. On polished cobalt these angled surfaces reflect light from multiple directions, creating small highlights along the edges. Some designs combine brushed centres with polished edges so the contrast between finishes becomes more noticeable along the chamfer.
