Fingerprint Rings

A fingerprint ring takes the ridge pattern from a real fingerprint and engraves it into the surface of a titanium band. On titanium the engraving cuts cleanly and develops a dark contrast, so the raised ridge lines appear black against the grey metal. Up close the detail is surprisingly clear, following the loops and whorls of the original print across the ring.

Width plays a visible role in the final result. A wider band allows more of the fingerprint to be shown, while a narrower one focuses on a smaller section of the pattern. The ends of the print can also be left in their natural tapered oval shape or trimmed square for a more even edge across the band.

About fingerprint rings on titanium

Why titanium

When handled in person, the engraved ridges sit slightly below the surrounding surface of the titanium. The result is a subtle recessed texture that can be felt with a fingertip while still remaining smooth enough for daily wear.

Because fingerprint engraving captures extremely fine ridge detail, the finished result is precise enough to distinguish one person’s print from another. With in-house engraving we also adjust the placement and scale so the fingerprint sits naturally across the band rather than appearing compressed or stretched. The fingerprint shown on these rings belongs to our engraver, as we would never publish a customer’s print.

Width and detail

The three widths available are 6mm, 7mm and 8mm. Width changes how much of the fingerprint can be displayed. A wider ring allows a larger portion of the print to be engraved, which makes loops and whorls easier to recognise.

Although these rings are shown as examples, fingerprint engraving is not limited to these three designs. Other flat titanium bands can also be engraved in the same way when the surface provides enough space for the ridge detail.

End styles

Customers can choose how the ends of the fingerprint appear on the ring. Natural tapered ends preserve the oval shape of the original print so the ridge lines narrow gradually toward the edges. Squared-off ends trim the print into a straighter band across the ring, giving the engraving a more uniform appearance from one side to the other.

Natural marks such as small scars can also appear in the engraving if the customer wishes. These details are part of what makes each fingerprint individual and many people choose to keep them visible.

Turnaround

Because the engraving follows the detail of a real fingerprint rather than standard text, preparation and engraving take longer than typical ring engraving. Fingerprint engraving can take up to 10 working days to complete.

Sizing

Titanium rings are difficult or impossible to resize once engraved, so selecting the correct size is important before ordering. These rings are available in UK sizes N to Z+6.

The inside of the band can also be personalised with standard text engraving such as dates, initials or messages using a range of engraving fonts.
